17Essex opened as a street-level room for women artists who wanted New York exposure without waiting for a midtown gatekeeper. Founders Ala Dehghan and Valentina Van de Weghe kept the program close to research, publishing, and conversation: checklists on the desk, lectures a few blocks away, and a shopfront that still looks like someone lives with the work.

The address is literal. Collectors, students, and neighboring kitchens walk past the same window. That is why a hang is never only a PDF. Walls get patched. Glass gets wrapped. When a work travels, the crate is part of the exhibition history.

Epiphany 2026 is already on the desk calendar as a lighting and label refresh, not a rebrand. The rose mark stays. The hours stay Thursday to Sunday unless an artist asks for a Monday install.
